MY MINDANAO: PHOTOGRAPHS FOR HOPE opens tomorrow, December 18, at the Sulawesi Function Room, ground floor of Marco Polo Davao, from 9am until 10 in the evening. This special one day exhibit is for a cause. In our years of experience as photojournalists we have been lucky to be traveling around to document wonderful places, people and culture, and publish them. We have collected many images that depict the beauty of our islands. We truly believe that Mindanao is blessed with people who care for its natural resources and preservation. But Nature has its own course, as well. Last year after Typhoon Sendong, through the help of friends and a workshop (“Shoot for Hope”), we were able to raise money and deliver relief goods to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan during the Christmas Season. This year we are trying to help raise awareness of the need to reach out more to remote, stricken areas hit by Pablo. We decided to donate forty (40) of our images. Some will be of Lumad portraits as well as …

SM Lanang Premier, the largest shopping mall located in Lanang, Davao City, has the latest attraction for kids and oldies alike. Though we live far, we had to bring the kid, nieces and my mom here regularly during the long holiday due to clamor for the newest hangout, a 122-meter dancing fountain, said to be the longest of its kind in the Philippines, located at the Fountain Court. The Waterworks Show at the Fountain Court is scheduled every hour from 6pm to 9pm on weekends, and 6pm, 7pm and 9pm on weekdays. Yesterday, Nov. 3, the usual crowd was given a pleasant surprise. They had this flash mob at the fountain by teens dancing to PSY’s “Oppa Gangnam Style” while the fountain dances to the addictive rhythm. View more photos in my Facebook

Published in SunStar Davao, Witerary by Jojie Alcantara The Davao Bloggers led by President Dulce Lada organized its first successful workshop entitled Blog Weekend Bootcamp this month. Around a hundred participants showed up from different parts of the island and as far as Manila. This was an intensive 3-day live-in conference with breakout sessions and hands-on workshop from September 21-23, 2012 at the Malagos Garden Resort in Davao City. With several speakers recognized in the blogging industry, this activity gave opportunities for newbie and advanced writers and bloggers to sharpen their skills and maximize growth in areas of creative writing, video blogging, photo blogging, and the Social Media. It was a pleasure for me to be part of the key mentors in this bootcamp. My topic was on Photo Blogging for both beginner and advanced classes, and I shared a bit of my background in photojournalism and creating an online presence in the new media (I was probably one of the oldest bloggers in Davao, dating back to the mid-90s when we used to call …
