People’s Park is an urban public park in central Davao City covering an area of 4 hectares. Formerly the famous old PTA Grounds I used to hang out with classmates during inter-school sports events, this P72M worth recreational park opened on December 15, 2007. A “name that park” contest was launched by the city government, and there you have it.
Durian Hotel in its time was one of the tallest structures in Davao City at 12 storeys high. It was prominent, elegant and a prime location at the heart of the city. Low occupancy because of decreasing tourist arrivals as well as high operational expenses eventually led to its closure by Metrobank.
This night shot was for an advertorial in Philippine Airlines’ inflight Mabuhay Magazine. I was commissioned by SM Malls to do the layout spread for the international magazine.
The local government building was built as a municipal hall by the American government in 1926, eleven years before the place was declared as a chartered city by then President Manuel L. Quezon in 1937.

On Sunday evenings, San Pedro Street transforms into a festive delight for “ukay” shoppers as a sea of humanity crams the main street and turns it into a veritable night market extravaganza. This month of March, though, it’s a daily happening, causing more traffic, but the people don’t seem to mind. 🙂 * * * *

In Davao, the Simbang Gabi tradition is even more significant because we do not celebrate Christmas in a loud way. This season is a special moment for families and loved ones to gather together and celebrate the nativity of Christ as well as give thanks to blessings received the whole year round.
I grew up playing and swimming in the black sandy shore of Times Beach in Matina decades ago. It is Davao’s public beach.
