Kadayawan sa Dabaw formally opens today

KADAYAWAN SA DABAW FORMALLY OPENS TODAY Davao City (15 August) – Kadayawan sa Dabaw formally unfolds today on August 15 at the People’s Park, with the opening rituals befitting a thanksgiving to start off the annual revelry of bountiful harvest and cultural heritage. Mass is set at 4 p.m. with an opening service which will be graced by Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, along with the city officials, festival committee teams, and guest speakers. A diorama will be staged before and after the mass, where a prayer ritual will be given for the lumads and Moslems, in line with this year’s theme of “Ten Tribes, One Vibe.” A lineup of activities are in store for the locals and visitors in the city, according to Lisette Marques, Festival Director under Duaw Dabaw Foundation, a private sector tasked to handle this year’s celebration. Ten tribes endorse their Hiyas ng Kadayawan candidates

Hiyas ng Kadayawan 2011 is Davao’s annual search for that distinctive indigenous young lady who is knowledgeable of her native culture and wisdom through a pageantry of Mindanaoan myths and legends. Ten young women from respective and distinguished tribes of Davao will be presented in their ethnic garbs, cultural performances, interviews and indigenous attires in a competition to vie for the festival gem of Davao. Talent night is at 6PM on August 16th at the Abreeza Mall. The Grand Coronation Night is at 6PM, August 17th, at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym). Dayaw Dabaw Street Market opens Aug 12

Dayaw Dabaw Street Market is a 10-day street market that will showcase the bounties of Davao, which is the central reason for thanksgiving during this Kadayawan Festival. Fruit growers and Davao’s best homegrown products, entertainment and food concessionaries will also be available for shoppers and tourists. Event opens on August 12, 5:00 pm and ends on August 21 along Palma Gil Street. The whole stretch will be closed to traffic by 5:00 pm. Davao’s new punch line

DAVAO’S NEW PUNCH LINE Davao City has a new treat for visitors as soon as they arrive in the airport. From August 11 down to August 21, tourists will be treated to the Davao Punch, a new concoction of non-alcoholic drink with a combination of guava, calamansi and pomelo, which was created by a chef of Center for Culinary Studies Davao (CACS Davao). This new fruit mix was created in line with the city’s campaign published in selected national dailies which highlights the bountiful harvest of fruits and flora during the month of August, hence its celebration of Kadayawan Festival. It also showcases ten of the most vibrant tribes in the city with a tagline of Ten Tribes, One Vibe. In a full page ad, a young lass in colorful authentic tribal costume holds a drink in her hand with the caption: “FLY TO DAVAO AND WE WILL WELCOME YOU WITH A GOOD PUNCH. At the Davao International Airport, experience our welcome drink, DAVAO PUNCH, a concoction especially made for the guests of Davao City.” …
