People’s Park is an urban public park in central Davao City covering an area of 4 hectares. Formerly the famous old PTA Grounds I used to hang out with classmates during inter-school sports events, this P72M worth recreational park opened on December 15, 2007.  A “name that park” contest was launched by the city government, and there you have it.

It was transformed into a nature themed location which features a mini-forest, dancing fountains, waterfalls and ponds, a kid’s toyland and large sculptures representing indigenous groups in Southern Mindanao and the Philippine eagle. The giant sculptures were created by my friend and renowned artist, Kublai Millan. There is no entrance fee, but on weekends, it’s practically packed with people and visitors from all over, until the well lighted evening.  It is strictly a no smoking area, like any other place in the city.

People’s Park is quite a nice place to hang out during lazy afternoons on white benches under shaded trees, as you watch doves fly by.  Make sure to bring a few crumbs with you.  Families come and have their picnic on the grounds, while some prefer to jog or walk at the colored oval area.

Here are a few shots I have converted into black and white or a sepia, turning it into a dreamy landscape I prefer to see.  But believe me, you have to visit the place to see more.
